What is Recreation and Leisure time?

ICBF (2014) define free time as:

It is that time in wich we do not occupy in tasks and responsibilities that have been estabiished on us, it is normally done after having performed all the obligations, these can be work, academic or domestic related, and generally the objective of this time is to be used in rest, have fun and expand in a different environments. (p.3)

Rewarding leisure like:

Leisure is the way we employ free time, commonly in activities performed voluntarily and in some ways pleasurable, which meet the intention of filling free time with personal and social sense and activities, through the entertainment or rest, promoting autonomy, rest, fun and integral development. (ICBF,2014,p.4)

..and the recreation:

Recreation is the action and effect of recreating and having fun as a relief from work, this also fulfills the goal of cheering, delight and have fun. These spaces motivate both group and individual participation and in most cases corresponds to physical and sports activities that allow the game as a strategy to renew forces (ICBF,2014, p.5)

The child in the current city

“In the desert of concrete and asphalt, between the streets of the towns, there are almost no play spaces for children” (Mendia, R., y Pitarque, J. M.1975. p.7)

"What can the child do on the street? Children need movement outdoors. In the same way they need to eat, they need a natural environment with air, water, sun and some activities, with movement and rest, that is, with rhythm. " (Mendia, R., y Pitarque, J. M.1975. p.7)

Taking these authors as a reference and analyzing our interviews we were able to conclude, “that there is no space at home”, that the outdoors is necessary, “but what the streets are dangerous”.

In the school we visited, we visualized that the classes are numerous, the very small courtyards, narrow, with little sun and air, affecting in turn the movement of children as Carlos (Psychologist) told us in another interview.

The question is… what happens with today’s free time?

It seems as if no one has free time, adults often express the lack of time, lack of place and the lack of tools to entertain their kids without being related to technology.

The main idea of this post is to highlight relevant information about how time is being manage and give room to think about What is happening with the recreation and leisure time? What is the importance of this matter and the relevance given in society? What does this mean to us? is recreation and leisure time important for children? Why ?
